Q-Black lives matter?
A- All lives matter!
The world is fighting for justice. We feel offended, hurt, frustrated, perplexed, shocked and sad because of the tragic death of George Floyd, and so many others who died unjustly. We feel the need to protest either pacifically, with music or some with chaos, vandalism acts. We have multiple unanswered questions and many assumptions such as, is the police officer racist, or is our justice system broken. What we know for sure is, this is not the first time we face a situation that is led by hatred and unfairness, and it is not the first time we protest it.
It keeps happening repeatedly. We asked ourselves, are we approaching the issue the right way, or maybe there is nothing we can do about it? But you see, we can do something, we just need to see the bigger picture.
How many other black people died like George Floyd that we are not aware of because there was no one to capture that moment? How many children died from hunger while their governments are spending so much money on luxury hotels, expensive cars or wasting so much food? How many people died from insignificant sickness, infections just because they don’t have access to minimum healthcare? How many women are abused every day? How many innocent people end up in jail?
Injustice is everywhere, and in every segment of humanity. We have been fighting for so long against all the subjects mentioned above, but we do not get permanent, significant results. Why? Were we not loud enough? Did we not fight hard enough?
Many people fought till death, and many screamed till they had lost their voice. But to destroy these corrupt systems, we need to fight the root of those issues. And this fight is not a simple fight involving humans being. It goes deeper than that. It is bigger than us. But do not feel discouraged, or powerless because we have God who is greater and more powerful than anyone or anything.
In 2 Timothy 3: 1-4, Paul wrote “There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.” So, what we are seeing today is no surprise. Regardless, we should not just witness the situation without acting. We need to intervene. Note that the root of all injustice is the lack of love for our neighbor. It’s not for any reason that God’s commandments are summed into Romans 13:8-10, which states “Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, … is summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Think about it, if we were to love our neighbors as ourselves, would there be any injustice, murder, or abuse in this world?
Loving your neighbor as yourself, praying that God touch their hearts so they can also love you back will end injustice, inequality, racism, intolerance, and discrimination. Therefore, to answer your question of how we fight the root of injustice, we need to lean on God because He is the only one who can change a man’s heart.
